Owner money

Can I afford to pay myself more?

Separate what the business can physically pay today from what it can keep paying without eating the tax reserve, bills and cash cushion.

The emotional trap

You built the business, there is cash in the bank, and it is natural to think some of it should come to you. The safer question is what remains after the business protects tax, near-term commitments and enough operating cash to survive a weaker month.

Limited company or sole trader changes the answer

A sole trader's drawings and a limited-company director taking salary, dividends or using a director's loan account are not the same thing. MoneyCue can help with affordability, but the tax/legal treatment needs the right route.

A useful first check

Use the safe-spend tool to see how much cash appears genuinely uncommitted, then decide whether the amount you want to take would reduce the business below the cushion you chose.
